Recently, a mate, a husband, a father of 3 young girls took his own life and it came as a complete shock to many. Over the decades that I knew him, he always had a smile on his face and was ever the joker and life of the party. This brought the number of mates that I have lost this way to 3, which is 3 too many.
Today, at a breakfast, I learnt that around the world, a man takes his own life every minute, 60 men each hour make this decision and 60 families, friends and communities are left wondering what they could have done differently to help their loved one. So this morning, I shaved off my facial hair and am replacing it with a Movember to start the conversation and will be running 60kms for my own health and mental well-being.
Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence. Help me stop men dying too young.
So if you can spare a few bucks for a donation or even just picking up the phone and calling your mates to check in on them and ask how they are really travelling, every little bit helps.
