I’ve grown a Mo for Movember a few times over the years, however, this year the Movember Movement hits a little closer to home.
On the 7th of March this year I lost my eldest brother Scott (Scoot) Dennis at the age of 51. Scoot battled addictions and mental health issues for over 25 years. A beautiful, kind, and gentle soul when in control of his demons, and a lost soul when he wasn’t. Despite all the love and help from family and friends, Scoot always struggled… until it was too late.
A month later, I lost a very close friend, Jason Richardson. I met Richo when our eldest children started school together and quickly bonded over our love of beer, a punt, camping, and rugby. I know he would be furious at the state of the Wallabies and their World Cup performance.
It’s difficult to know how to help those close to you when they are struggling and as a father to two teenage boys I know they don’t always share their feelings. I hope by raising some money, growing a mo and bringing awareness means some bloke, somewhere, might be able to find the support or network he needs.
I know it’s not possible to donate to every cause, however, if this one means something to you, please think about kicking in some money. If you can’t donate, consider the males in your life that might be doing it tough and give them a call.
